Education Support for the Rimpoche of Thame Dechen Chokholing Gomba

The Thame Monastery is one of the oldest in the Khumbu region in Nepal. It is located in Thame, a small Sherpa village in Namche village development committee of the Solukhumbu District in Nepal. Currently the Monastery is headed by Rinpoche Nawang Thile Palpar aged 7 years. He is from Jorsale village, Chaurikharka, Solukhumbu, Nepal. The Rinpoche was believed to be reincarnated and recognized by the Tengboche Rinpoche in 2014 following a series of religious selection process.

Following his recognition, the Rinpoche has to undergo a prolonged education course in order to learn about Buddhism and the greater learning about the religion. At present he is studying at Thame monastery under the supervision of a tutor monk from India until he reaches 10 years. After that the monastery plans to send him for advance Buddhist studies to Mindrolling Monastery in Dehradun, India which is one of the largest Buddhist centers in existence today. All the great masters of Tibetan Buddhism, and especially all the teachers of the Nyingma lineage consider Mindrolling to be an inspiring example of the practice of the pure and profound Dharma of Vajrayana Buddhism. The Rinpoche must study here until he is aged 23 years to complete his education.

The Thame Monastery has set up a fund for the welfare of the entire monastery including maintenance, food, and shelter for the monks and others. However, it does not include a separate education fund for the Rinpoche including the cost to study in Mindrolling Monastery in India. As such the Monastery is now exploring opportunities to initiate a special fund to support education of the Rinpoche.
